If you’re looking for a spot out of the norm, look no further than downtown Livingston. The Coffee Shop on Monroe was founded by Ashley Harris, a former University of West Alabama student. The Coffee Shop has some of the best coffee in town for a reasonable price and has new and alternative food choices to set it apart from local competition.
“It was a pipe dream to start the place,” said Harris, “but when the property went on sale I had to seize it. Livingston needed its own coffee shop.”
The shop has been open for over a year now, with its grand opening on May 1, 2012.
Harris said the store has a “lot of room to grow” and “potential to meet” but she is steadily working on the menu. Since February, the shop has been licensed to sell alcohol, and more new items are added every semester.
“It wasn’t originally intended to be the only place to sell vegetarian and vegan dishes,” said Harris, when asked about the items sold on the list, which include panini’s, club sandwiches, French toast, quesadillas, and hummus platters. As Harris is a vegetarian herself, she said, “It’s a social responsibility now to provide other options for the community.”
With most of the customer base coming from the University, Tiger Bucks are now accepted.
Hours of operation run Monday through Friday 7 a.m. – 11 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday 9 a.m. – 11 p.m.
