On Thursday, the UWA Tigers played host to the Miles College Golden Bears at Tartt Field. The Tigers entered the game with a 10-4 record while Miles had a 4-5 record. In great weather for baseball, it was a close game from the first inning to the last.
In the top of the first inning, Miles was able to put the first run up on the board and the Tigers did not waste anytime getting a run either in the bottom of the first. The Tigers were able to get two more runs in the bottom of the third inning, which now made the score UWA 3 and Miles 1.
As the game progressed, it became a game full of fielding and outs showing great discipline between these two collegiate ball clubs. In the seventh inning, the Tigers were in the field for a great period of time until Parker Madden was able to field a fly ball to get the Tigers out of the inning. Miles was able to get three runs this inning, which gave them lead by a score of 3-4.
The Tigers would continue to trail until the ninth inning when it all mattered most. They were able to keep Miles off the scoreboard, yet in the bottom of the ninth inning rallied to get the two runs they needed to get the victory over Miles. The final tally in this matchup was UWA 5 , Miles 4.
The Tigers of West Alabama improved to 11-4 on the season with an upcoming series of games hosting Gulf South Conference opponent North Alabama. Beyond that, the Tigers will hit the road for approximately two weeks and on April 15 play host to another Gulf South Conference opponent Valdosta State in a double header with a third game on the following day.
