Valentine’s Day was not as sweet as the UWA Tennis teams had hoped it to be. UWA Tennis played hosts to the University of West Florida Argonauts in Gulf Southern Conference play. University of West Florida traveled to Livingston with both its men’s and women’s tennis team being ranked nationally in the top ten.
The men’s tennis team entered this match with an unbeaten record of 4-0. This matchup was sure to be a test for the UWA men’s tennis as UWF men’s tennis are ranked number three in the nation. UWA men could not pull the win off and were defeated by a score of 0-9 resulting in a lost for the team. The team is now 4-1. They will go on to host and hopefully recover in a great against Morehouse College and Stillman College leading into their GSC matchup against Alabama-Huntsville in the upcoming weekend.
The women’s tennis team was up to face the Lady Argonauts who arrived on the UWA campus ranked the number seven women college team. This too proved to be a test for the ladies of UWA as it was for the men. The women were not able to pull the win off either as they were defeated by a score of 0-9 as well. Their record was not undefeated, but this gave the UWA women their second loss in the season. They now stand at a record of 3-2. They will face in the upcoming week Stillman College and GSC conference opponent Alabama- Huntsville.
The men’s and women’s tennis teams look forward to defending their courts in the week to come as a total of three institutions will be welcomed to the campus for friendly athletic competition.
