Due to inclement weather, West Alabama Baseball is set to hit Tartt Field for their home opener on Friday, February 10th with a day-night double header featuring Miles College (3-0) at 3 p.m. and Lindenwood University (1-2) at 6 p.m.
For the first 100 fans to get to Tartt Field, head to the concession stand for a free cupcake sponsored by your UWA Diamond Dolls!
“Opening days are exciting and this year shouldn’t be any different,” head coach Gary Rundles said. “ With a doubleheader against two quality teams, they should defiantly be challenging.”
“Our players and fans are excited about our new digital/video scoreboard,” assistant coach David Steed said. “The new and updated scoreboard will bring another level of excitement to this season. ”
West Alabama heads into the doubleheader with a 1-2 record after their season opener against Saint Leo University last weekend. GSC Freshman Player of the Week Luke Phillips lead the Tigers with a batting percentage of .400. Senior second baseman Joel Murphy also contributed in hitting, .400.
With the baseball’s flying at Thomas B. Southward Stadium, the Tigers racked in seven homers in the series at Saint Leo. Junior right fielder Taylor Stafford lead the team in home runs with three.
Admission to Tartt Field is $5 for non-students. West Alabama Student ID’s secure free admission and UWA All-Sports Passes will be honored for all UWA Baseball games.
“I think we are going to be really good this year,” senior first baseman Marcus Morrisette said. “We are coming back stronger, with more depth, and guys that are willing to make sacrifices to win. This year’s team will definitely do big things, so come out and support.”
So head out to Tartt Field Friday at 3 p.m. for some great baseball and some phenomenal cupcakes!
