On a humid Sunday afternoon the UWA Men’s tennis team suffered a narrow defeat to conference rival North Alabama.

UNA edged out the tigers 5-4 overall with the result going down right to the final matchup. The result leaves the tigers 1-1 in Gulf South conference play and 3-2 overall on the season.

The lions have now improved to 4-2 in conference play and 4-3 overall.

This result comes as a shock as UWA managed to dominate North Alabama over the last few years, the Lions have not managed to beat UWA for over 3 years. Last season the tiger’s comfortably beat UNA 5-1.

A senior player on the men’s team, Adam Drysdale, said “It’s a tough loss, but we need to move on from this close game and get a good result on Tuesday.”

The UWA women’s Tennis team also suffered defeat to UNA on Sunday. North Alabama comfortably beat the tigers 7-1 to improve to 3-1 in conference play. The loss drops the lady tigers to 1-2 in the conference.

Next up for both the men’s and women’s teams is conference newcomers Mississippi College. The matchup is set for 2:00pm on Tuesday at home at the Vaughn Tennis Centre
