The University of West Alabama Tigers took on Delta State for the final time this season.
Ariel Wilson, a senior for the Tigers motivated her team throughout the game and hustled to every ball. “ I just want to make sure that before I leave this school, that I gave my all in every game that I play,” Wilson said, “I want people to remember our team and how good we are because, as a team, when we work together we get the job done.”
The Tigers came out in the first quarter with energy and aggression against the Statesman. Wilson started the game early by putting up valuable points for the Tigers.
In the second quarter the Tigers began to fall behind. The aggressiveness was not as relevant as it was in the first quarter. The Tigers were down by four throughout the second half.
Going into the third quarter, the Tigers’ defense broke down, and team communication began to lack. As a team, the Tigers could not get rebounds in order to transition the ball for an offensive play.
In the fourth quarter, they came back and added points to the scoreboard. The Tigers stacked their defense and did not let the Statesmen have any time to put more points on the board.
As the game moved on, the Lady Tigers came back, and got the crowd involved in their energy as they scored back-to-back. In the last 12 seconds the score of the game was 57-59, Tigers down. In the final 3 seconds, the Tigers were unable to make a three point play, and they lost with a score of 57-60.
Going into this game, the Tigers had a record of seven wins and 18 losses. The Tigers will look to have their senior night and final game this Saturday, Feb 23rd. Ariel Wilson and Catherine Taylor will be recognized for their time here at UWA. Game time is set for 1p.m.
