National Signing Day is one of the most anticipated dates in college football that receives extensive attention by signees choosing their future and letting the world know. Coach Gilliand and much of the UWA staff are all new to the program, so in December he set out to look for the people he needed to help fill the gaps in the Tiger football team, yet Coach Gilliand stated “we are very excited about our signing class.”
Each signee will have the chance to showcase their talent and prove that they can make an impact on the team and they are expected to see the field in many different areas based on the talent of this signing class. Of course the players were not forced to come to UWA and when Coach G was asked what he believes was the driving factor behind the signees he received to the UWA family he responded, “There were many other choices of schools but the excitement and great direction of the program led them to choose UWA.”
Coach said, “We started out recruiting high school athletes in Alabama and Mississippi junior college athletes. Other athletes from Georgia and Florida came aboard as well.” With the short time span of the recruits UWA gained Coach G believes that they did quite well for the time they had to recruit.
Besides the 2014 signees the current tigers are working out and running four times a week and a little of conditioning and study hall and tutoring.
