Shooting Scare Alarms Oklahoma Campus

A school shooting was reported at the University of Oklahoma in Norman, at 11:20 A.M on January 22. The university was quickly shut down, and both the Norman and Campus police were notified. Gould Hall was the center of all the turmoil. This hall was kept in a shut down state even after the rest of the school had resumed normal functions. Upon further investigation, the authorities could find no traces of an actually shooting or gunman. After several hours of repeated questioning and investigations a theory was placed and accepted that some machinery was backfiring which created the sound of gunshots. Thankfully this “shooting” was a false alarm and no one was hurt during this event.

Mall Shooting Claims Two

On Jan. 25, 2014, at 11:15 a.m., a 911 call was placed from a shopping mall in Columbia, Md. The caller reported that there was a gunman with a shotgun in the mall. The gunman shot and killed two people who worked for a Zumiez store, and wounded five others. The gunman was a 19-year-old man named Darion Marcus Aguilar, he took his own life soon after the shooting was finished. His motive for this violence is still unclear to the police.

Darion arrived at the mall by cab an hour before the shooting, Upon entering the Zumiez store, Darion fired six to nine shots killing 21-year old Brianna Benlolo and 25-year-old Tyler Johnson. Soon after this, he took his own life with the gun. Darion’s motive for these killings remains unknown and police are still investigating possible reasons for this man to have taken the lives of the two Zumiez employees.

The 12-gauge Mossberg shotgun that Darion used was purchased in the month of Dec. Several search and seizure warrants were issued for Darion’s house and police quickly seized computers, personal documents, and other potential evidence. The journal retrieved from the premises did not provide enough information to determine a motive for the shootings, it merely stated some level of unhappiness.

Darion’s mother later told reporters that he was a “gentle and sweet kid.” She didn’t think that he knew his victims. The latest update stated that the police were trying to retrieve information and documents from Darion’s computer and phone, but so far no new evidence for a motive has been discovered.

The shootings in the Maryland Mall were merely the latest in a week of terrible shootings. Shootings have been reported at South Carolina University, Perdue University, and Widener University.
