This past weekend, UWA men’s soccer was 1-1; defeating Detla State and falling the Christian Brothers University at Tiger Stadium.
UWA took on Detla State Friday night and added another GSC win to their 2013 record. Thibault Charmey scored his tenth goal of the season after giving UWA their first goal of the game in the nineteenth minute of the game. Charmey assisted Brian Meadows, as he scored his second goal for the season. Sophomore Emmanuel Mondestin gave the Tigers their final goal leaving the score board 3-1.
“Our lads showed a lot of character,” UWA head coach Matthew Thorne said. “Delta State is a hard-working team that never gives up.”
Unfortunatley, the Tigers fell to CBU Sunday afternoon. Halfway through the first half, Senior Victory Gazza added his seventh goal of the season with an assist from Evan Beutler; making the score 2-1. Artiga recorded his first goal of the season in the last two seconds of the game.
“We didn’t play as a team” said midfielder William Artiga. “After the first goal we let up. After we lost Thibault we gave up hope and we didn’t play will the end of the game.”
UWA will take on West Florida for their final game of the season before they begin their conference games. The tigers will take the field in Tiger Stadium at 7:30.
