The University of West Alabama men’s basketball team has had a phenomenal, history making year. One of the most anticipated events in college hoops has finally arrived, and the Tigers look forward to being a part of March Madness this year.
The Tigers have worked all season long for this opportunity, and their perseverance led to the team breaking an impressive number of school records. The Tigers and first year coach Robert Downey were able to earn the most regular season wins since 1998. The Tigers were also fortunate enough to earn another school record with 14 Gulf South Conference Wins, the most in school history.
Despite a tough loss in the Gulf South Conference tournament a week ago, the Tigers were selected to take part in the NCAA Division II Regional Basketball Tournament held on the campus of Florida Southern College in the Jenkins Field House. The Tournament will kick off on March 15 with the quarterfinals, which will see the No. 7 seeded UWA Tigers take on No. 2 seeded Saint Leo with tip off set for 1:30 p.m. This is first appearance that UWA Men’s Basketball team has had in the NCAA Divison II Basketball Tournament since 1982.
Game coverage can be found locally and globally via ESPN 104.9. Also, uwaathletics.com documented play-by-play can be found on the video stream.
